Burlington boat docks renamed ‘The Dyer Docks’
BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The docks by the boat launch in Burlington Wednesday were officially named in honor of the founders of Dragonheart Vermont.
The organization worked with the Burlington, Vermont’s Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department on the name change to the “The Dyer Docks.”
John and Linda Dyer founded the nonprofit, which connects breast cancer survivors to wellness initiatives in 2004. Linda is a breast cancer survivor.
In their early years, they moored the dragon boats out on the lake. Eventually, they fundraised to put them by the boat launch to make them more accessible.
The renaming of the docks was a complete surprise to the Dyers. “It’s an incredible honor. We were very surprised,” Linda said.
“I’m kind of choked up about it. It’s a real honor. This is an amazing group of people,” added John.
Dragonheart Vermont is most known for the Dragonboat Festival held on Lake Champlain every August.
