BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Vermont Congressman Peter Welch is calling on federal authorities to investigate possible price gouging with traveling nurses.

In a letter to the Biden administration Thursday, Welch said the ongoing pandemic and current surge of cases continues to strain our health care system, particularly hospital staff and nurses. In many cases, hospitals rely on higher-paid traveling nurses to fill the gap. But Welch says they are concerned that some staffing agencies are price gouging.

“Reports have shown that some of these agencies are inflating prices by two, three, or more times pre-pandemic rates and taking 40% or more of the amount charges to hospitals for their profits,” Welch said in the letter.
