NH man pleads not guilty to fatally shooting cousin
NORTH HAVERHILL, N.H. (WCAX) - The man accused of murdering his cousin in Orford, New Hampshire, over the weekend appeared before a judge on Monday.
Lance Goodrich, 35, of Lyme, New Hampshire, did not speak at Monday’s hearing in Grafton County Superior Court in North Haverhill. His court-appointed lawyer entered a not guilty plea to second-degree murder on his behalf.
Police say Goodrich shot his cousin, Brooke Goodrich, 25, once in the head Saturday at her home on Route 10 in Orford.
Goodrich was taken into custody several hours later in Newport, New Hampshire, about 50 miles south, after a standoff with police.
We do not yet know what led up to the shooting or a possible motive for the alleged crime.
Goodrich is being held without bail while he waits for his next hearing.
In the meantime, he has been ordered to have no contact with the victim’s immediate family.
An autopsy on the victim was scheduled.
