RYEGATE, Vt. (WCAX) - Federal investigators are looking into a weekend hot air balloon crash in Vermont. No one was injured.

State police say the balloon came down in the trees in Ryegate at about 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

Police say the operator, Keith Sproul, 62, of New Jersey, and passenger, Olivia Miller, 20, of Massachusetts, had taken off from the Post Mills Airport.

Investigators say Sproul was trying to slow down the balloon by brushing the tops of trees when he lost control and had to make a crash-landing into the trees.

The crash damaged the balloon but both people are fine.

The FAA and NTSB are investigating.
