BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - The Burlington School Board has approved a change in the role of school resource officers in the district.

The board voted Tuesday to eliminate one of two in-school officer positions. The officer will now be stationed at the Burlington Police Department.

Starting in the fall, the officer will go on campus in cases of an emergency or scheduled visits like drills or training.

A number of schools around the state and the country have been discussing the role of resource officers following last summer’s push to reform and defund police departments.
